Mr. Independent

Everyone says that once you have a new baby your last baby suddenly seems gigantic and so old! And I must say I totally agree. Brady looks enormous to me: his feet are huge, his face looks so much rounder, and his diapers...let's just say Craig and I ask ourselves daily how it is possible he's not potty trained yet. Beyond this Brady seems to suddenly be feeling the urge to be a big boy himself. He has become Mr. Independent to the extreme. He wants to do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, himself.

Craig's mom has been sleeping on the spare bed in Brady's room the past week - while she's been helping us with the baby transition - and she happened to hear Brady talking in his sleep last night. He said one phrase, multiple times: "Do it self! Do it self!" Craig and I find this hilarious and just too perfect

Lily’s been doing well since coming home. She’s a trooper and is hanging in there. She has what we call “episodes” every now and again where she aspirates and turns a little blue but amazingly she’s pulled through them all, even a gigantic one on Sunday night. Today she began showing her first signs of seizure activity, something that is very common, even expected with her condition. The seizures aren’t like adult seizures; they’re more like a little twitch right now. And she’s such a sweet girl, she never makes a peep about them. The biggest hurdle in caring for her is keeping her temperature regulated. She can’t do it herself so we have to keep her bundled up, and use a heating pad periodically throughout the day to keep her from becoming hypothermic. We’re learning quickly, though, and establishing a regular schedule for her care. We also have a wonderful hospice nurse who calls daily and comes by about 3 times a week to check in on our baby girl. It’s so nice to have a resource we can go to with any questions at any time. We’ve really had fantastic medical personnel the entire time. We’re very lucky. And we’re lucky to have had every day we’ve had so far with Lily. We’re soaking it all in while we can
